The balls run in four precision-ground raceways between a guide rail and a carriage, with end plates integrated in the carriage allowing the balls to circulate. Since cage plates hold the balls, they do not fall out even if the guide rail is pulled out (except types HRW 12 and 14LR). Due to the optimum arrangement of the 4 rows of balls at a contact angle of 45° each, the LM block has equally large basic load ratings in the radial, reverse radial and tangential principal directions. In addition, the carriage can be given a preload that increases the stiffness in the four directions while maintaining a constant, low coefficient of friction.
In a low-center-of-gravity arrangement with a large rail width and low overall height, this type can be used in places where there are confined installation spaces or where high rigidity against a moment load is required even in a single-rail arrangement.
Due to the high number of load-bearing balls, this model is highly rigid in all directions. It can adequately support a moment load even in a single rail arrangement. In addition, the high axial area moment of inertia of the rail ensures excellent tangential stiffness. Measures to improve stiffness, such as lateral stop surfaces, are therefore not required.
