Sealed, single-row SKF angular contact ball bearings come standard with two non-contact seals. These seals are made of NBR and are provided with sheet steel reinforcement to improve mechanical stability.
The seal lip forms an extremely narrow gap with the mating surface on the inner ring; this, in combination with the special seal lip shape, has the effect of minimizing grease leakage.
A further advantage of this seal design is that there is no friction between the seal and the mating surface on the inner ring.
This reduces the bearing temperature, which results in a longer service
life of the lubricant and has a positive effect on the operating
speeds of these bearings. Temperature measurements on the outer rings showed that the temperature peaks of sealed SKF standard single-row angular contact ball bearings were more than 30% lower than comparable competitive bearings with contact seals and that operating temperatures were almost 20% lower.
