Angular contact spherical plain bearings have spherical sliding surfaces on the inner and outer ring arranged at an angle to the bearing axis. They are suitable for supporting combined loads (radial and axial). A single one of these spherical plain bearings can support axial loads in one direction. Under radial load, a force is generated in the bearing in the axial direction, which must always be balanced by a counterforce. The bearings are generally adjusted against a second bearing. If two angular contact spherical plain bearings are arranged so that their ball centers coincide, the result is a spherical plain bearing that can support high loads radially and axially in both directions.
As standard, angular contact spherical plain bearings are manufactured with the sliding combination steel/PTFE-FRP.
They are preferably intended for loads with constant direction and are maintenance-free. To improve corrosion and sealing protection, it is recommended for many applications to fill the clearance around the bearing with a lithium-based grease as corrosion protection during installation. This initial lubrication would extend the actual service life of the bearing.
